The Gannon University men's soccer team opened its 2026 campaign on Saturday, falling 2-0 to Lake Erie at McConnell Family Stadium.
Opening Surge
Lake Erie opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Veljko Radovanovic slipped a low drive past Gannon's keeper, and doubled the lead just 14 minutes later as Lucas Howe finished a swift counterattack.
Despite being outshot 17-7 overall, Gannon managed a 10-4 edge in the second half, yet the Golden Knights could not find a breakthrough.
The first half ended with a 2-0 deficit, although Gannon had recorded seven shots and three corners before the break.
Lake Erie's set‑piece superiority was evident, earning six corners to Gannon's two, with three of those coming in each half.
In the closing stages, Gannon pressed forward, with Carter Sindlinger testing the defense in the 83rd minute and Dominik Varga forcing a save in the 89th, but the scores remained unchanged.
The team will look to rebound when they host East Stroudsburg at McConnell Family Stadium on August 30 for Youth Appreciation Day.
