Garden City Field Hockey Extends Dominance with 13th Consecutive County Title

The program’s latest championship, community initiatives, and future leadership are reshaping the local sports landscape

A Historic Run

The Garden City High School field hockey team clinched the Nassau County Championship with a 1‑0 victory over Manhasset, extending its streak to 13 straight county titles.

Just days later the squad captured the Long Island Class B crown, defeating Eastport‑South Manor to claim its fifth consecutive state‑level championship.

The team’s season ended in the semifinals of the New York State Tournament against Burnt Hills‑Ballston Lake, but the run underscored the program’s depth and resilience.

Community Leadership

Beyond the pitch the program has become a catalyst for charitable work. Players and families organized a cancer‑awareness campaign that raised funds for the nonprofit For All Who Fight, an organization founded by cancer‑survivor sisters Mikaela, Marguerite and Morgayne Rix, who are also active in GC Lacrosse and Field Hockey.

The initiative included the team’s inaugural Youth Day, where youngsters received treats, cheered the varsity players and exchanged high‑fives, fostering the next generation of talent.

Accolades and Recognition

Head Coach Amanda Lee was honored as the 2025 Nassau County Field Hockey Coach of the Year by Newsday, while captains Katherine O’Hanlon, Averie Smith and Caterina Suau were celebrated for their leadership. Individual honors poured in: Averie Smith and Emily Racich earned All‑State selections, and O’Hanlon, Suau and Grace Brantuk received All‑County accolades. Additional recognitions included All‑County Honorable Mentions for Brianna Kashimer and Casey Psaki, an All‑League award for Grace Berkery, and conference honors for Shea McGovern, Jenny Roller and Daly Prybylski. Delaney McNaboe was presented with the Unsung Hero Award.

The coaching staff announced that next season’s leadership will be carried by captains Grace Berkery, Grace Brantuk, Brianna Kashimer and Emily Racich. The team is slated to open the Fall 2026 schedule on September 3 at Massapequa.
