Gardner‑Webb Women’s Basketball Earns WBCA Academic Top 25 Special Mention

Team’s 3.57 GPA highlights academic excellence alongside athletic performance

A Dual Triumph

The Gardner‑Webb women’s basketball program has been named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Academic Top 25 Special Mention for the 2025‑26 season, a distinction that underscores the team’s dual commitment to athletic competition and scholarly achievement.

The WBCA’s Academic Top 25 ranks squads based on their combined grade point averages, requiring a minimum 3.0 team GPA and honoring all roster members who meet the standard. For the 2025‑26 academic year, the Runnin’ Bulldogs posted a collective GPA of 3.571, with each of the 11 players maintaining a 3.00 or higher.

Gardner‑Webb joins two other Big South institutions — Longwood and UNC Asheville — in receiving the special mention, highlighting the conference’s growing emphasis on academic excellence. Danielle Donehew, executive director of the WBCA, praised the recognized programs for their dedication to success both on the court and in the classroom.

The association also celebrated 119 teams across its five collegiate divisions, reflecting a broad culture of balanced achievement that extends beyond win‑loss records.
