Quarterback Mayson Mitchell, a sophomore making his first start, orchestrated a balanced aerial attack, throwing for 258 yards and three touchdowns while spreading the ball to multiple receivers. His composure under pressure helped the Gators maintain momentum after an early 17-0 lead.
The first points came when Daysaun Spencer caught a 17-yard catch-and-run in the opening quarter, setting the tone for a game that would see the Gators dominate time of possession.
Defensive Highlights
A pivotal moment arrived when Kacey Carter, playing both tight end and defensive end, recovered a fumble from Kiski Area quarterback Landyn Artman. Carter’s recovery led to a 2-yard touchdown reception by Khalid Harper, extending the lead to 24-3 before the fourth quarter.

Kiski Area’s Struggles
Cavaliers coach Brayden Thimons lamented a series of first-half errors, including a 40-yard field goal that put his team down 17-0. Seth Duda managed only a field goal before halftime, and a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Artman in the second half proved insufficient to close the gap.
Despite a late rally, Kiski Area could not overcome the early deficit, finishing with just 10 points on the board.

Gateway entered the game after a 3-7 record the previous season and an exclusion from the WPIAL Class 5A playoffs, a fact that coach Don Holl acknowledged when he noted the team’s early mistakes but emphasized the importance of building on a win.
