The Gators are intensifying their recruitment efforts ahead of the 2028 class, zeroing in on Xander Edwards, a 6‑foot‑1‑inch, 210‑pound running back who starred at The Bolles School in Jacksonville.
A pivotal visit
Edwards is slated to set foot on the University of Florida campus on September 26, coinciding with Ole Miss’s game, giving him a firsthand look at the program’s atmosphere and facilities.
Coach Chris Foster, who has taken the reins of the Gators’ backfield, has been highlighted by Edwards for his genuine approach to building relationships, emphasizing personal connection over sheer on‑field performance.
The current staff is credited with injecting fresh energy into the program, a factor Edwards says could help restore the Swamp’s historic vibe and improve the overall experience for players.
While Miami currently holds a slight edge in Edwards’ internal ranking, the Gators remain in the mix alongside traditional powerhouses such as Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and Florida State, as well as Big Ten contenders Indiana and Wisconsin.
According to 247Sports, Edwards sits at No. 143 nationally, No. 9 among running backs, and No. 15 within Florida, while Rivals’ prediction model assigns Notre Dame a 38.1 % chance, Miami 20.5 %, Florida 12.1 % and Syracuse 5.5 %.
The upcoming visit may prove decisive, as Edwards weighs the promise of a revitalized coaching staff against the allure of other elite programs.
