New Mexico State University’s baseball program has announced the addition of Gavin Grant as an assistant coach, a move that bolsters the team’s infield development and recruiting pipeline.
Grant will concentrate on coaching the Aggies’ infielders, guiding hitters, and supporting the recruitment of top talent, drawing on a career that blends on‑field instruction with operational oversight.
A Proven Track Record
During his tenure at the University of Oregon, Grant served as the Ducks’ director of camps, where he managed logistics, coordinated scouting efforts, and helped the program reach the Austin Super Regional in 2026. His contributions were instrumental in the Ducks’ 2023 Pac‑12 Championship, a season that also saw him earn a starting role at second base.
Grant’s playing résumé includes 187 career games with 185 starts, a .266 batting average, 77 RBIs, and a .380 on‑base percentage at Tacoma Community College before transferring to Oregon. He was recognized as a First‑Team West Region selection in 2019 and remains tied for seventh in program history with 109 runs scored.
His coaching impact extends beyond the field, having overseen the development of nine drafted players, including three infielders selected in the 2026 MLB Draft. Among those prospects are 2025 NCBWA First Team All‑American Mason Nevill, 2026 Just Baseball Third Team All‑American Ryan Cooney, 2024 NCBWA Second Team Freshman All‑American Maddox Molony, and 2026 Perfect Game First Team Freshman All‑American Angel Laya.

Grant holds a bachelor’s degree in general social science with an emphasis in business (2022) and a master’s in public administration (2025). Prior to his role at Oregon, he served as an assistant coach under Jake Angier, gaining experience that he now brings to New Mexico State.
