GE Vernova Park Debuts as Upstate’s First Permanent Pro Soccer Venue

Greenville Triumph to open against Forward Madison FC under new chairman Wallace Cheves, with Ronaldinho among new investors

A New Chapter for Upstate Soccer

The Upstate finally has a dedicated stage for its soccer ambitions. GE Vernova Park, a 6,300‑seat facility in Mauldin, South Carolina, opened its gates this week, becoming the region’s first permanent home for professional soccer.

The inaugural match will see the Greenville Triumph take on Forward Madison FC on June 3, a clash that will also introduce new chairman Wallace Cheves to the league’s fans. The club’s ownership group, led by businessman Joe Erwin, has attracted high‑profile investors, including the Brazilian legend Ronaldinho, who joins as a strategic partner.

Funding for the project came from a mix of public and private contributions. The city of Mauldin and the state of South Carolina each allocated government money, while Hughes Investments donated millions of dollars worth of land and infrastructure. These investments underscore a broader vision of using the stadium as a community hub.

Beyond professional games, GE Vernova Park will host youth leagues, college competitions, concerts, festivals and a variety of community events, aiming to become a year‑round gathering place that fuels local tourism and economic activity.

The stadium’s design includes a pathway that could eventually support expansion into higher divisions, giving the Triumph a clear route toward national prominence. With a blend of modern amenities and a commitment to local engagement, the venue signals a new era for soccer in the Upstate.
