Gemma Walker Commits to Youngstown State Women’s Basketball

Former Saint Francis standout joins YSU roster for 2026‑27 season

Gemma Walker, a 5‑foot‑10 guard from Venetia, Pennsylvania, has officially signed with Youngstown State University, committing to the program for the 2026‑27 season.

A Fresh Face for the Penguins

Walker arrives after two seasons at Saint Francis University, where she contributed to the Red Flash’s recent successes and demonstrated steady growth as a collegiate player.

During her sophomore campaign she averaged 7.6 points per game and led the team with 75 made free throws, underscoring her reliability in high‑pressure moments.

Her high school pedigree includes four letters at Peters Township High School, two first‑team all‑section honors and recognition as the 6A People's Choice Player of the Year after topping the Big 56 Conference with 20.1 points per game as a junior.

Walker also earned a spot on the Pittsburgh Post‑Gazette 6A Coaches All‑Second Team and shared co‑player of the year honors from the Observer‑Reporter and The Almanac.

Coach Melissa Jackson announced the signing on Monday, highlighting Walker’s scoring skill set and free‑throw consistency as valuable assets for the upcoming roster.

She will join transfers Mia Kalich and Jada Leonard along with incoming freshmen Evelyn McKnight and Kaitlyn Turinsky, creating a blend of experience and fresh talent.

The addition is part of a broader strategy by Youngstown State to strengthen its attack and depth as the program looks to contend for conference success in the near future.
