George Quarles, a former college assistant and longtime high school coach, officially took over the football program at Webb School in Knoxville in early December, bringing with him a résumé that includes eleven state championships at Maryville High School.
Quarles arrived on Dec. 9 after a stint as tight ends coach at Austin Peay State University, and he immediately began shaping expectations for the 2026 season, urging the community to keep realistic goals while still aiming for growth.
Player Perspectives
Senior receiver and defensive back Brailen Robinson has voiced enthusiasm about the coach’s philosophy, while defensive lineman Will Overton predicts a winning culture will take root at Webb in the coming years.
Quarles also reflects on the broader shifts in high school sports, noting the impact of the transfer portal, name‑image‑likeness opportunities and evolving parent dynamics that have reshaped recruiting and team building.
Despite the turnover of his current roster, the coach remains focused on constructing a sustainable program that can compete consistently, even as the landscape continues to evolve.
