Georgetown University’s men’s soccer program unveiled its leadership for the upcoming 2026 season, naming three student‑athletes as team captains.
Coach Brian Wiese highlighted the blend of experience and emerging talent, pointing to senior midfielder Matthew Helfrich, senior defender Oliver Stafford and junior defender Tate Lampman as the pillars of the squad.
Helfrich’s Dual Threat on Field and in the Classroom
Helfrich, who started all 22 games in 2025, contributed four assists from the midfield and earned a place on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on October 6, 2025. His academic record includes three BIG EAST All‑Academic selections and a College Sports Communicators Second Team Academic All‑American nod in 2024.
Stafford, a defender who appeared in 16 games with 14 starts, added two goals, one of which served as the game‑winner, and was part of a backline that recorded 11 shutouts. Like Helfrich, he is a three‑time BIG EAST All‑Academic honoree.
Lampman’s Rising Profile and International Exposure
Lampman started all 13 games he played during the 2025 season, scoring two goals and contributing two assists for a total of six points. His performances earned him the 2024 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year award and a Third Team All‑BIG EAST selection.
Beyond collegiate play, Lampman received invitations to the U.S. Under‑19 Men’s National Team camp in Marbella, Spain, and was later called into the U.S. Under‑20 Men’s National Team camp in January 2026, underscoring his growing reputation on the international stage.
The trio’s selection reflects Georgetown’s continued emphasis on competitive excellence and academic rigor, a combination that has yielded multiple conference recognitions and strong performances over the past seasons.
