Preseason Favorites
Georgetown University’s women’s soccer team has been selected as the BIG EAST Conference’s preseason favorite, receiving eight first‑place votes in the league’s recent poll.
The announcement underscores the Hoyas’ strong returning core and the expectations of coaches and analysts heading into the new season.
Defensive Player of the Year
Senior defender Kaya Hanson was honored as the BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
Hanson, who anchored a defense that recorded 13 shutouts in 2025, also earned United Soccer Coaches All‑East Region Second Team recognition and a spot on the BIG EAST All‑Tournament Team, cementing her status as a defensive stalwart.
Midfielder of the Year
Junior midfielder Lizzie Heller earned BIG EAST Preseason Midfielder of the Year honors.
Heller returns for her third season after a 2025 campaign that yielded three goals, four assists and ten points, and she was previously recognized with Second Team All‑BIG EAST accolades.
Looking Ahead
The Hoyas open the 2026 schedule on August 13 against Fordham at the Hilltop, a match that will test the newly crowned honorees against a disciplined Rams side.
With a blend of veteran leadership and fresh talent, Georgetown aims to translate its preseason accolades into on‑field success, aiming for a deep run in the conference tournament and beyond.
