Georgia’s 2027 Baseball Squad Poised for a Breakthrough
Coach Wes Johnson enters the 2027 season riding the momentum of a historic SEC championship and the program’s first-ever SEC tournament title. The victory has set a high bar, and Johnson is confident that the new roster can translate that success into another dominant year.
The transfer portal has been a goldmine for the Bulldogs, delivering 20 fresh arms and bats. Rankings from 64Analytics and Baseball America place Georgia’s class at No. 1 and No. 5 respectively, underscoring the impact of junior college transfers and freshmen alike.
Among the headline acquisitions are first baseman Jake Hanley, a left‑handed slugger who earned 2025 Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors with a .338 average and 14 homers, and third baseman Mikey Bell, a top‑41 prospect. Catcher Hunter Carns adds depth behind the plate, while power‑hitting Naulivou Lauaki, who has launched balls over 470 feet, promises extra‑base fireworks.
Pitching depth is perhaps the most exciting storyline. Newcomers Marcus Paz from LSU and Jason Flores from Texas join a stable that already features returnees such as Joey Volchko, who improved his ERA from 6.01 to 3.68, and Caden Aoki, who logged over 230 postseason pitches.
