Georgia Baseball's Record Night Delayed by Weather, to Resume Saturday
A sudden two‑hour rain delay forced the Bulldogs to halt their matchup against Long Island, pushing the scheduled continuation to Saturday at 9 a.m. When play resumes, Georgia will sit atop the scoreboard with a 15‑1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The delay came at a pivotal moment, as the Bulldogs had already turned the game into a showcase of power hitting. In the first six innings they launched six home runs, shattering both the program’s single‑season home run record and the mark for most runs scored in a single game.
Every starter in the lineup reached base at least once, and six of the nine managed to get on three separate occasions, underscoring the depth of the offensive onslaught.
Right‑hander Joey Volchko delivered a masterful performance, tossing six hitless innings that featured a blistering 95‑97 mph fastball paired with an 87‑90 mph cutter. He struck out ten batters while walking three, throwing a total of 100 pitches and preserving the rest of the staff for the remainder of the Regional.
The previous record for runs scored had stood since the 1990 College World Series championship team, a benchmark that the current squad appears poised to eclipse.
