The Georgia Bulldogs saw their 2026 College World Series hopes evaporate on Thursday night as they fell 11-4 to the Oklahoma Sooners, a game that highlighted both offensive drought and defensive lapses.
Oklahoma’s Surge
Oklahoma entered the contest riding a peak of form, and their bats answered the call, piling up 11 runs on 15 hits while Georgia’s pitching staff struggled to contain the onslaught, surrendering eight earned runs over 7.1 innings from Paul Farley and Matt Scott.
For Georgia, the offense could only muster four runs on six hits, with Kolby Branch and Ryan Black driving in two RBIs each, but the lack of additional support proved costly.
Coach Wes Johnson, reflecting on the loss, praised Oklahoma’s performance, acknowledging that the Sooners were simply at the top of their game, a sentiment echoed by the scoreboard that showed a stark contrast between the two teams’ efficiencies.
Despite the defeat, the Bulldogs closed the season with a 53-14 record, a mark that stands as one of the most successful campaigns in program history, even though they fell just short of the CWS Final.
