The University of Georgia announced this week that both offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann have signed contract extensions that run through the 2028 season, cementing the continuity of a coaching staff that has helped the Bulldogs dominate the SEC in recent years.
A Strategic Move for Georgia Football
Bobo, a former Georgia quarterback who returned to his alma mater in 2023, will see his compensation rise steadily, with a base of $2.2 million this season, $2.3 million in 2027 and $2.4 million in 2028, a structure designed to reward sustained performance.
His contributions were recognized when he became the sole offensive coordinator in the nation to be a finalist for the Broyles Award, a honor that ultimately went to Indiana’s defensive mastermind Bryant Haines, who guided the Hoosiers to a surprise national championship.
Schumann, who joined Smart’s staff back in 2016 as a linebackers coach, was promoted to defensive coordinator for the 2024 campaign and has since been credited with assembling a deep and talented linebacker corps that remains a cornerstone of Georgia’s defense.
The moves also reflect the ripple effects across the college football landscape, as Todd Monken, who preceded Bobo in the offensive coordinator role, has taken the helm of the Cleveland Browns, while Smart continues to shape one of the most respected staffs in the sport.
