Georgia Completes Comeback to Win 13-12 Super Regional Opener

Late homers and clutch performances decide a high‑scoring showdown

A Nail‑Biter in Athens

The Athens Super Regional delivered one of the most explosive college baseball contests of the season, as Mississippi State and Georgia traded blows in a 13‑12 finish that featured 11 home runs and a combined 25 runs.

Mississippi State jumped out to a 7‑0 lead early, but the Bulldogs from Georgia answered with a series of timely hits and long balls that shifted momentum repeatedly.

Kevin Milewski and Gehrig Frei launched back‑to‑back homers in the top of the sixth, briefly rekindling the lead, only for Rylan Lujo to reply with two blasts of his own, the second of which put Georgia ahead in the bottom of the sixth.

Ryder Woodson matched Lujo’s heroics with a solo homer in the top of the seventh, but Ace Reese’s eighth‑inning shot kept the Bulldogs within striking distance.

Michael O’Shaugnessy then delivered a go‑ahead homer for Georgia in the bottom of the eighth, and Daniel Jackson capped the night with his 30th home run of the season, underscoring his SEC Player of the Year campaign.

On the mound, Grant Edwards earned the win while Dane Burns took the loss, reflecting the tightly contested nature of the game.

The series will resume on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT, with the second matchup set to be streamed on ESPN and aired on participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations.
