Georgia High School Football Realigns for 2025 Season
The Georgia High School Athletic Association has announced a sweeping reclassification that will see 43 football programs ascend to higher competitive divisions for the 2025 season, reshaping matchups and playoff expectations across the state.
Among the most prominent moves, Creekside, which captured the previous Class 4A title, will now compete in Class 6A, effectively jumping two tiers, while the defending Division I champions Worth County are also stepping up to a higher class.
The new naming scheme replaces the former 6A through Division II hierarchy with a tiered structure that spans from 7A down to A, placing teams such as Kennesaw Mountain Northgate Seckinger in the top 7A bracket and moving programs like Cedar Shoals, Hiram, Kell and Midtown Northside from 6A into the next level of competition.
Additional shifts include several schools moving from Class 5A into higher divisions, a cluster of teams transitioning from Class 4A into Class 3A or beyond, and a group of programs advancing from Class 2A, all of which will alter traditional rivalries and playoff brackets.
