A Georgia man, Terrell Williams, has been charged with burglary and related offenses after breaking into the home of former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle in the aftermath of a private plane crash that claimed the lives of Biffle and his family on December 18, 2023.
A targeted intrusion
According to court filings, Williams entered the Cobb County residence on January 8, 2024, after learning that the tragedy had left the property unattended. He made off with roughly $30,000 in cash, two Glock handguns, a collection of NASCAR memorabilia and a cache of gold and silver coins.
Investigators later recovered portions of the stolen loot, including distinctive racing memorabilia, and discovered a radio‑frequency detector that Williams had used to locate security cameras inside the house. The same individual is also suspected of committing a separate burglary in North Carolina while a local officer was hospitalized.
The case took a darker turn when authorities uncovered a web of financial fraud tied to Biffle’s accounts. Detectives found that personal data had been exploited to gain control of his bank, Venmo and PayPal balances, with unauthorized transfers and attempts to cash forged checks linked to the driver’s business ventures.
Sheriff Darren Campbell explained that Williams monitored news headlines and social‑media posts to pinpoint moments when Biffle’s family would be away, a tactic that allowed the burglar to strike at the most vulnerable times.
Williams was finally apprehended in July 2026 during the investigation, bringing closure to a saga that spanned multiple states and exposed vulnerabilities in both home security and digital finance.
