The University of Georgia women's soccer team opened its 2026 campaign with a narrow 3-2 loss to Texas Christian University, a match that featured an early strike and a late rally.
Sophomore forward Mya Townes gave the Bulldogs the lead in the eighth minute, finishing a move set up by senior midfielder Kiera Staude and Honoka Hamano.
TCU answered quickly, equalizing in the 10th minute when Eres Freifeld found the net, and the Horned Frogs took the lead in the 25th minute as Grace Coppinger converted a free‑kick.
The Bulldogs' momentum shifted again in the second half when Emma Yolinsky added a third goal in the 62nd minute, extending the advantage to 3-1, while a missed chance by junior midfielder Kieryn Jeter rattled the crossbar.
Georgia cut the deficit in half when graduate forward Emma Pettersen headed in a cross from freshman Maya Woolforde, and goalkeeper Hannah Folliard was eventually replaced by graduate keeper Jordan Brown for the remainder of the game.

Despite being outshot 12‑9, the Bulldogs held a slight edge in shots on frame, 5‑4, but the extra goal proved decisive. The team will now travel to Mercer on August 30, where the match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. EDT kickoff and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
