Construction is currently underway on Georgia State’s brand‑new baseball complex, which sits on the former Atlanta‑Fulton County Stadium grounds. The venue, slated to be called Chastain Childers Field at Bill and Susan Reeves Baseball Stadium, will serve as the home field for the Panthers’ program.
The University System of Georgia Board of Regents recently gave its blessing to the naming, cementing a tribute that links the team’s future with two figures who shaped its past.
A tribute in stone and spirit
Chastain “Chase” Childers, a Cobb County police officer and former Panther standout, lost his life in July 2025 while attempting to rescue a family of five from a rip current off Pawleys Island, South Carolina. His on‑field achievements include a 2009 conference championship and a draft selection by the Baltimore Orioles.
Bill Reeves, a Georgia State alumnus and longtime donor, contributed millions to the athletic program, funding the William “Bill” D. Reeves Society that supports all 16 of the university’s sports teams. His partnership with his wife, Susan, made the stadium’s naming possible.
University officials say the facility is expected to be ready by the fall, ushering in a new chapter for Panther baseball that honors both personal sacrifice and generous stewardship.
