The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's basketball team has secured a commitment from German forward Lenny Anigbata for the 2026‑27 season. Standing 6‑foot‑7, Anigbata brings a blend of size, shooting range and rebounding ability that coaches hope will accelerate the program's rebuild.
A Strategic Addition
Anigbata spent the last two seasons in Germany's top professional league, first with FC Bayern and then with Porsche Ludwigsburg. In his final German campaign he averaged 12.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and two assists per game, highlighted by a 27‑point performance on 10‑for‑19 shooting and a 22‑point, 13‑rebound outing.
The Mocs are reshaping their roster after a season that ended 13‑9 overall and 7‑11 in Southern Conference play. Six players from the previous squad are set to return, including junior walk‑on Houston Holland, sophomores Josh Bowman, Sean Cusano, Tate Darner and redshirt freshman Zach Bleshoy.
Head coach Dan Earl emphasized that Anigbata's arrival is part of a broader strategy to infuse international talent while maintaining a core of home‑grown talent. The coaching staff sees the German forward as a cornerstone for a more dynamic offensive scheme.
With one scholarship spot still open, the program remains open to adding another overseas player, potentially expanding its global footprint. This recruitment aligns with a trend of attracting European prospects to the Southern Conference.
Looking Ahead
Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how Anigbata will mesh with returning veterans and new transfers. If the early indications are any guide, the Mocs could turn a challenging season into a competitive campaign, leveraging both domestic development and international experience.
