The San Francisco Giants have suspended the salary of outfielder Harrison Bader following a weekend collision that involved his scooter and a fire engine parked in the city’s Marina District.
A Risky Ride
Bader’s brush with danger is not the first; a 2014 scooter crash at the University of Florida left him with injuries and raised questions about his judgment, and witnesses at the recent Marina District incident said he seemed intoxicated.
The Giants’ legal department is now probing the circumstances of the crash, but Bader has not fully cooperated with investigators, leaving the team to rely on police reports and eyewitness accounts.
Medical imaging scheduled for Tuesday to assess the extent of Bader’s injuries was postponed, and as of Friday the results remained pending, keeping his return to play uncertain.
Despite being owed more than $10 million over the life of his contract through 2027, Bader has struggled this season, batting just .170 with an OPS of .557 in 30 appearances.
