A Summer of Travel and Growth
The Gilmour boys basketball team has spent the past months criss‑crossing Ohio, testing themselves against a variety of opponents and schemes. From Euclid to Cedar Point, the Lancers have turned the state into a living laboratory, using each stop to sharpen their speed and cohesion.
Last season ended with a promising 12‑1 start that quickly unraveled after injuries and the temporary absence of leading scorer Brody Durham. The setbacks forced the squad to adapt, but the offseason has brought a renewed sense of purpose as all five starters return, including Durham, Mikey Holt, Aiden Anders, Brayden Titas and Caleb Henderson.
Coach Dan DeCrane has repeatedly emphasized that speed and chemistry are the foundation of the Lancers' identity. This summer, his message has resonated with the players, who have embraced the challenge of facing state champions such as Toledo St. John's, Ignatius, Massillon and Hoban in games scheduled through December, January and February.
The schedule has been as tough as it is diverse. Highlights include a lone loss at the NEO Sports Plant Summer League and an unbeaten run at Mount Vernon Nazarene, while the team posted victories over Avon, Alliance and Jackson at Midwest Live, dropping only to Canfield in that showcase.
For the players, the summer experience is more than a series of games; it is a chance to gel under pressure, learn new tactical nuances and build the rapport that will be crucial when the regular season begins. As the Lancers look ahead, the lessons learned on the road may well define the trajectory of their campaign.
