Let’s Go South Bay! teams with the Alex Morgan Foundation to blend soccer training with mentorship, education and leadership development

Girls Empowerment Soccer Camp Returns for Its Fourth Year

From June 8 through June 12, the South Bay will host the fourth annual Girls Empowerment Soccer Camp organized by the nonprofit Let’s Go South Bay! (LGSB). The event takes place at Southwestern College’s DeVore Stadium in Chula Vista, California, and brings together dozens of young athletes for a week of soccer drills, team‑building activities and enrichment workshops.

Beyond the field, participants dive into sessions on mental health, nutrition and college readiness, all designed to foster confidence and leadership skills that extend well beyond the game. The curriculum was shaped by board member Norma Chavez‑Peterson, who emphasizes the organization’s commitment to investing in the next generation of local leaders.

A highlight of the program is a professional career panel that features community and healthcare executives discussing future pathways. The panel, alongside mentorship from the Alex Morgan Foundation and Southwestern College’s women’s soccer program, aims to connect the girls with role models and tangible opportunities.

The camp culminates in a closing ceremony that celebrates each participant’s achievements, reinforcing a sense of accomplishment and community. Organizers note that the initiative has grown each year, creating an increasingly supportive environment for young women in the region.

Partnerships Fuel Progress

Financial and in‑kind support comes from the Alex Morgan Foundation, Southwestern College, and a network of local partners, underscoring a collaborative effort to sustain the program’s impact. The continued growth reflects strong community buy‑in and the shared vision of empowering the next generation of leaders in the South Bay.
