Glen Rice has been selected for the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2026, becoming the third Michigan Wolverine to be enshrined in this prestigious institution.
A Legendary College Run
During his tenure at the University of Michigan, Rice led the Wolverines to their first NCAA National Championship in 1989. He averaged 30.7 points per game across six tournament contests, establishing tournament records with 184 points and 75 field goals, feats that remain unmatched.
Rice concluded his collegiate career with 2,442 points, placing him second on Michigan's all‑time scoring list. He earned consensus All‑American honors twice and was crowned Big Ten Player of the Year in 1989, underscoring his dominance in the conference.
From College Stardom to NBA Glory
The Miami Heat drafted Rice fourth overall in the 1989 NBA Draft. Over a 15‑year professional career he became a three‑time All‑Star and capped his journey with an NBA Championship alongside the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000, a testament to his sustained excellence.
In recognition of his impact, the University of Michigan raised his No. 41 jersey to the rafters of Crisler Center in 2005, ensuring that his legacy endures for future generations of Wolverines.
