A Legendary Career Celebrated
Glen Rice, the University of Michigan’s all‑time leading scorer, has been selected for the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026, cementing his place among the sport’s most revered figures.
During his sophomore season in 1989, Rice propelled Michigan to its first NCAA national championship, earning Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors and setting tournament records with 184 points and 75 field goals. His 2,442 college points rank second in Michigan history, and his 949 career field goals remain a school record.
Rice’s professional journey was equally distinguished. Over 15 NBA seasons he amassed three All‑Star appearances, a 1997 All‑Star Game MVP award, and a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000. His consistent excellence earned him a spot on the 1996‑97 All‑NBA second team and a lasting legacy as one of the game’s premier scorers.
The induction marks the third time a Michigan Wolverine has been welcomed into the Hall, following the earlier honors of Cazzie Russell and John Beilein. Rice’s jersey No. 41 was retired at Crisler Center in 2005, and his contributions have been recognized by the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame and the University of Michigan Hall of Honor.
