A fresh start under new leadership
The Yellow Jackets finished the 2025 campaign with a 7‑4 record, capturing third place in their region and earning the program’s first playoff berth in more than a decade. The victory marked a turning point after years of rebuilding efforts.
BJ Brooks, who took over as head coach in the offseason, inherits a squad that returns 11 starters, five on each side of the ball, and also retains its punter. Brooks emphasized continuity, saying the team will lean on the experience of those returning players while integrating fresh talent.
Among the departures are four offensive linemen, standout Aiden Johnson, and Copper Gomez, who contributed significantly on both offense and special teams. Despite those losses, the coaching staff remains confident that the remaining core can maintain the momentum.
A schedule that tests resolve
The early road trip to Hayden presents a tough defensive front, while the later rivalry matchup against the Eagles offers a chance to cement regional dominance. Both games will be pivotal in determining whether the Yellow Jackets can translate their 2025 breakthrough into a sustained winning streak.
Competing in Class 3A, the Yellow Jackets will encounter new opponents as Etowah, Oneonta, and Hokes Bluff shift down from Class 4A. The team’s recent history has taught them not to underestimate any adversary, a lesson that will be put to the test throughout the campaign.
