A New Chapter for GlenOak Soccer
The GlenOak High School boys soccer team is gearing up to defend its Federal League championship for the first time in more than three decades, a feat that has not been achieved since the early 1990s. The victory last season was built on a blend of seasoned leadership and emerging talent, setting a high bar for the upcoming campaign.
Head coach Damien Marchione, who guided the team through a breakthrough year in his debut, emphasizes that experience, chemistry, and strategic preparation will be the cornerstones of their title defense. Marchione notes that the squad’s familiarity with the league’s rhythm and its opponents provides a competitive edge as they aim to retain their crown.
The roster will look different after 16 seniors, including All‑Ohio goalkeeper Nico Codispoti, departed. Codispoti’s departure left a void between the posts, prompting DaMarko Jordan to step into the goalkeeper role despite limited prior experience in that position. Early‑season injuries have also tested depth, with Ethan Gupta sidelined for a month due to a sprain and Eli Smith battling a stress fracture in his foot.
Despite these setbacks, the team retains several key contributors. Enzo Gliatta, the top scorer from last year as a sophomore, returns as a junior and is expected to build on his offensive output. Defensive midfielders Ian Meyer and Bryce Burton are back, with Meyer projected to rank among the area’s best interior midfielders. Karson Frame, who recovered from an ACL tear sustained the previous season, is slated to make a significant impact.
Looking Ahead to the Season
The schedule has been bolstered with matches against St. Ignatius and Hudson, offering the team exposure to lower‑division opponents and additional competitive fire. The objective is clear: improve upon last year’s performance and secure a top‑two finish in the Federal League standings, positioning the squad to contend for another league title. With a large junior class that brings extensive club‑level experience, the team’s chemistry appears poised to translate into sustained success on the field.
