Glenvar High School’s soccer programs entered the Region 2C tournament with high expectations, and the opening round delivered exactly the kind of start the teams and their supporters were hoping for.
Girls Team Shines in 9-1 Triumph
The girls’ varsity side opened its campaign with a 9-1 victory over George Wythe, a result highlighted by Gabby Barba’s first‑half hat trick that put the team firmly in control early in the match.
Barba’s three goals came within a 15‑minute span, allowing Glenvar to build a comfortable lead before the break. The remaining goals were spread across the second half, but the early onslaught set the tone for the rest of the game.
Boys Continue Dominance
The boys’ team, the three‑time defending state champions, continued their winning ways by posting a 10‑0 shutout against Chatham. The performance underscored the depth and experience that have characterized their recent successes.
From the opening whistle the Glenvar side pressed forward, creating numerous chances and maintaining possession. By halftime the score was already 5‑0, and the second half saw the team add five more goals without reply.
