The Glidden-Ralston baseball team is putting the final touches on a season that has been marked by a blend of youthful energy and seasoned experience. After opening the year with a 5-12 overall record and a 4-5 mark in the Rolling Valley Conference, the Wildcats have begun to turn the page, driven by a core group of seniors and emerging underclassmen.
A Season of Growth
Seniors such as Landon Rohrbeck are leading the offense with a .396 batting average, collecting 21 hits and scoring 14 runs, while teammate Carson Peters maintains a .310 average and a .408 on-base percentage. Sophomore Colton Rohrbeck adds a .328 average and 19 hits, including three doubles, and eighth-grader Landon Whitaker paces the squad in RBI with a .319 average.
On the mound, Jackson Whitaker has emerged as the ace, logging 32 innings and posting a 3.94 ERA, giving the team a reliable arm as the schedule tightens. The roster also features contributors like Greyson Renze, Hayden Fay, Brody Hunt, Evan Andersen, Chevy Clark, Noah Davis and Colby Sibenaller, each adding depth to the lineup and pitching staff.
The Wildcats still have three regular-season contests remaining, with matchups against Boyer Valley, East Sac County and Woodbine on the horizon before the postseason begins.
Postseason Outlook
Head coach Joey Walker stresses that defense, hitting and pitching must all click if the team hopes to compete against St. Edmond in the opening playoff game, a contest that will see the Wildcats enter with a 12-9 record. Walker believes the experience of the seniors, combined with the spark provided by younger players, could translate into a strong postseason run.
With the regular season winding down, the focus is shifting to fine-tuning fundamentals and building momentum. The upcoming games will serve as a final test of the team’s cohesion, and the coaching staff is confident that the blend of experience and youthful talent positions Glidden-Ralston to finish the year on a high note.
