A championship built on patience
Gloucester Catholic’s baseball team captured its fourth straight Non‑Public B state championship on June 11, defeating St. Mary of Rutherford 11‑1 in a game that blended disciplined hitting with a relentless approach at the plate.
The victory was anchored by an early surge that saw the Rams jump to a 4‑1 lead after two innings, highlighted by an RBI double from Jason Bogart. A six‑run third inning, fueled by a two‑run single from Henry Pancoast, turned the contest into a showcase of patience, as the team drew 11 walks and added six hits.
Senior shortstop Noah Danza, who will head to Mississippi State next season, capped his high school career with a memorable RBI double, while Pancoast’s final at‑bat produced a two‑run single that sealed the win. Both players have been integral to each of the program’s four recent titles.
Starting pitcher Jude Morgan contributed a scoreless fifth inning to lock down the victory, a performance that echoed his earlier win in the Rams’ 8‑1 triumph over Bishop Eustace. Morgan’s experience in high‑stakes games has become a cornerstone of the team’s playoff runs.
A legacy of excellence
Gloucester Catholic’s storied program now boasts 23 state championships, the most of any school since the NJSIAA playoffs began, and the recent run marks the second time the Rams have posted four consecutive titles.
Coach Nigel Archibald praised his squad’s effort, even as St. Mary of Rutherford finished the season 17‑12‑1. The team’s blend of discipline, hard work, and strategic patience continues to set a benchmark for New Jersey high school baseball.
