The Goddard High School football team has entered a week-long heat acclimatization program, a ritual designed to ease players into the demanding conditions they will face when the season kicks off. With temperatures regularly climbing into the high nineties, the regimen serves as both a physical and psychological primer.
Head Coach Tommy Beason has stripped the sessions of pads and helmets, focusing instead on bare‑foot conditioning that gradually exposes athletes to the elements. By removing the insulating layers, he hopes to teach the boys to recognize and respect the heat rather than fight it.
