Golden Flashes Fall to Duquesne in Narrow Road Match

Despite outshot advantage, Kent State’s soccer team will finish non‑conference slate at home

The Golden Flashes soccer squad traveled to Pittsburgh on a sweltering Sunday, where they faced the Duquesne Dukes and slipped to a 1‑0 defeat.

A Close Contest in Pittsburgh

The Dukes struck first, with Kaitlyn Killinger finding the net in the sixth minute, a lead they defended for the remainder of the contest.

Kent State’s defense held firm after the early setback, repelling Duquesne’s attacks for 84 minutes and limiting the opposition to a single goal.

Despite the loss, the Flashes outshot the Dukes 16‑6, including nine attempts in the second half, and earned eight corner kicks to Duquesne’s three.

In goal, junior Emma Klein yielded the lone tally in the first half, while senior Leah Shaffer posted two saves after the break, preserving the team’s composure.

Home Stretch Awaits

The Flashes will close out their non‑conference schedule with two home fixtures, first against the Oakland Grizzlies on Thursday and then versus the Cornell Big Red on Sunday.
