Gonzaga has extended an offer to DeMarcus Henry, a 6‑7 small forward who sits at No. 11 overall and third among small forwards in the 2027 class. The Bulldogs’ latest move adds a highly coveted prospect to a recruiting class that already includes a commitment from Dooney Johnson.
Henry, who plays at Compass Prep in Arizona, is drawing interest from a handful of blue‑blood programs. In addition to Gonzaga, he has received offers from North Carolina, Arkansas and Kentucky, making his decision one of the most watched storylines in the upcoming cycle.
Family Legacy and Recruiting Context
Family ties add another dimension to Henry’s recruitment. His older brother, Chris Henry Jr., has pledged to play wide receiver at Ohio State in 2026, while his sister, Seini, redshirted on the Buckeyes’ women’s basketball team last season. Their father, Chris Henry, was a former NFL wide receiver who died in 2009.
On the court, Henry has posted eye‑catching numbers. He led his high school team to a 25‑3 record and a No. 4 national ranking, averaging 12.9 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. The performance earned him MaxPreps All‑America honorable mention, and in the Nike EYBL circuit he posted 19.3 points on 51.1 % shooting.
More recently, in three games in Atlanta earlier this month, he logged 16.3 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 2.3 assists, underscoring his all‑around impact.
Gonzaga’s coaching staff, headed by Mark Few, is also tracking other 2027 targets such as Jalen Davis, Gene Roebuck and California‑born wing Gene Roebuck. The Bulldogs’ 2026 class already features 6‑5 wing Luca Foster and 7‑0 center Sam Funches, both four‑star recruits, while Izan Almansa, a 6‑10 forward from Real Madrid, awaits eligibility to join the program this fall.
With a tradition of developing NBA‑ready talent and a strong pipeline of recruits, Gonzaga hopes Henry’s commitment will tip the scales, even as the competition remains fierce.
