A New Right‑Side Tire for Michigan
Goodyear is set to debut a new right‑side tire at the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series event at Michigan International Speedway, a track known for its long, sweeping corners and high‑speed straights.
The left‑side tire being used is one that has already seen action at six other high‑speed ovals this season, including the recent race at Nashville Superspeedway, giving teams a familiar baseline.
According to Justin Fantozzi, Goodyear’s Director of Racing for the Americas, the combination builds on the intermediate track package that teams have already tested multiple times, expanding strategic options on race day.
Michigan’s smooth surface and multiple racing grooves create a unique environment where tire performance can swing the momentum, prompting Goodyear to engineer a right‑side compound that can endure the track’s heavy loads while still offering grip.
Truck Series and Beyond
In the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, teams will also run a proven tire setup that mirrors what was used at Texas Motor Speedway last month, continuing the left‑side tire that has appeared at Nashville and Charlotte in recent weeks.
Because the 15‑inch tires required at tracks of a mile or longer come with inner liners, the same applies to Michigan, ensuring the carcass remains protected under high‑pressure conditions.
Beyond stock cars, Goodyear’s Racing Eagle tires are also active this weekend at the NHRA New England Nationals at New England Dragway and in the British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park, underscoring the brand’s broad motorsport presence.
