Gopher Lineman Jaxon Howard Launches Free Youth Football Camp at Cooper High

The third‑year event, co‑hosted with linebacker Emmanuel Karmo, offers drills, games and pizza for kids across the Twin Cities

Jaxon Howard, a defensive lineman for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, announced that he will run a free youth football camp at Cooper High School, the school he graduated from, on July 15. The event marks the third edition of Howard’s community‑focused initiative, which aims to introduce local children to the fundamentals of the game while emphasizing teamwork and sportsmanship.

Camp Details and Offerings

The camp is being co‑hosted by Emmanuel Karmo, a fellow Gophers linebacker and also a Cooper High alum. Open to kids from first through eighth grade, the day will feature a mix of skill drills, small‑sided games, and a complimentary pizza and drink station to keep participants fueled throughout the session.

Howard, now entering his redshirt junior season, previously signed with LSU out of high school before transferring to the University of Minnesota. In 2025 he appeared in all 13 games, recording 29 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and four sacks, experiences he hopes to share with the campers.

Community Partnerships

The event is supported by the University of Minnesota and Robbinsdale Cooper High School, both of which have provided facilities and logistical assistance. Their involvement underscores a broader commitment to youth development and educational outreach within the Twin Cities region.

Beyond the on‑field instruction, the camp serves as a platform for Howard and Karmo to give back to the community that helped shape their own athletic journeys. By offering a free, inclusive experience, they aim to inspire the next generation of student‑athletes to pursue both academic and sporting excellence.
