The University of Minnesota’s men’s basketball program has been recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches with the Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2025‑26 academic year.
The honor is reserved for teams that post a collective grade point average of at least 3.0 across all scholarship‑eligible players, a benchmark that underscores the program’s commitment to balancing athletic ambition with scholarly achievement.
Honors Court Highlights Academic Depth
In addition, more than 2,300 student‑athletes nationwide earned placement on the NABC Honors Court, a distinction reserved for juniors, seniors and graduate players who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Four members of the Gophers roster — Cade Tyson, Maximus Gizzi, RJ Spencer and Robert Vaihola — were among those celebrated for their academic performance.
Athletic director Maria Johnson praised the student‑athletes for their dedication, noting that the recognition reflects a culture that values intellectual growth as much as competitive success.
