Gotham FC, the two‑time National Women's Soccer League champions, are set to move into New York City’s first soccer‑specific venue, Etihad Park, in 2028.
The 5,000‑seat stadium, currently under construction in Queens, will sit just steps from Citi Field and will also become the home ground for Major League Soccer’s NYCFC.
Star power arrives with Sam Kerr
The relocation is expected to lift attendance dramatically, with the team projecting that three million people will be within a 75‑minute public‑transit ride of the venue.
The move follows the recent signing of Sam Kerr, the 2023 Ballon d’Or runner‑up from Australia, who is expected to draw even larger crowds.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has voiced his support, saying it is time for Gotham FC to finally have a world‑class stadium in the city they represent.
Beyond the club’s ambitions, New York continues to expand its sports footprint, having hosted the recent World Cup final and eyeing a joint bid for the 2042 Winter Olympics.
