Governor Josh Shapiro took the ceremonial seat at the driver’s stand of Pocono Raceway on Sunday, serving as the honorary starter for the highly anticipated Great American Getaway 400.
A Boost for Pennsylvania Tourism
The venue, affectionately known as “The Tricky Triangle,” has long been a cornerstone of the state’s tourism calendar, drawing thousands of fans each year and generating significant revenue for local businesses.
In remarks before the green flag, Shapiro highlighted the race’s importance as a showcase for the region’s hospitality and its ability to attract top drivers, crews and media attention to the Poconos.
When the checkered flag finally fell, veteran driver Denny Hamlin crossed the line first, securing his spot in the winner’s circle and adding another chapter to the track’s storied history.
NASCAR officials praised the event’s organization and the collaborative effort between state leaders and the racing community, noting that such partnerships help sustain the sport’s growth and the surrounding economy.
