Bieser arrives after a stint at Jacksonville State, where he guided the team to a 48‑win season and an NCAA tournament appearance, and before that spent seven years at the University of Missouri before a four‑year tenure at Southeast Missouri State.
At a press conference in Phoenix, special advisor Jerry Colangelo praised the new coach, saying, “Steve brings a blend of experience and character that aligns perfectly with our mission.” GCU vice president of athletics Jamie Boggs added that Bieser “is the right fit to lead the program into its next era.”

Biesel’s previous coaching stops produced mixed results; at Missouri the team slipped below .500 in one season and never made the NCAA tournament, yet his overall win‑loss record remains impressive.
