Grand Rapids Celebrates Milestone in New Soccer Stadium Construction
A topping‑out ceremony was held this morning at the construction site of the new Amway Soccer Stadium in downtown Grand Rapids, drawing city officials, developers and community leaders to mark a key phase of the project.
The $175 million facility, slated for completion in spring 2027, will serve as the home of the MLS Next Pro franchise Athletic Club Grand Rapids and is designed to host roughly 17 home matches each season along with about 50 additional events ranging from concerts to conventions.
Funding for the stadium combines public and private contributions, with Amway providing $33 million for naming rights and a modest increase in the Kent County hotel tax earmarked for the development.
Economic Impact and Community Benefits
City officials project that the venue will generate more than $400 million in economic activity over the next 30 years and create 330 new jobs, reinforcing the stadium’s role as a catalyst for downtown revitalization.
The project also includes a $6 million pedestrian bridge that will link Grand Valley State University’s parking structure to the nearby YMCA, improving access for fans and visitors.
With 16,000 parking spaces within a 15‑minute walk, the stadium is positioned to become a hub of activity that draws visitors from across the region and supports local businesses.
