Grant Kemp, a former LSU New Orleans standout, has taken on a new role as director of basketball operations and video coordinator for the 2026‑27 season, a move that underscores his evolution from a walk‑on prospect to a key architect of the program’s behind‑the‑scenes strategy.
From Walk‑On to Scholarship Star
Kemp began his collegiate journey at Washington College in 2022, where a 15‑point, seven‑rebound outing earned him Shoreman of the Week honors. After transferring back to Louisiana, he spent a season at LSU Alexandria, starting 15 of 24 games and earning a spot on the Red River Athletic Conference’s ‘Champions of Character’ team.
High School Legacy
At Archbishop Hannan High School, Kemp amassed 1,158 points, 601 rebounds, 557 assists and 278 steals over four years, guiding his squad to four district titles and an LHSAA championship. His performances garnered three first‑team All‑District selections, two St. Tammany All‑Parish honors and a place on the Clarion Herald’s Elite Boys Basketball Team, while he graduated magna cum laude and captured the Hawk Award twice.
Leadership Recognized
Stacy Hollowell, who hired Kemp for the new operations role, praised the former player’s work ethic, grit and reliability, noting that Kemp ‘never backs down from challenges’ and is trusted in every situation. He replaces Andrew Fava, who held the position since Hollowell’s arrival, marking a fresh direction for the Privateers’ basketball staff.
A New Era for the Privateers
The appointment coincides with LSU New Orleans’ recent rebranding, which merged the institution into the LSU system after a long history dating back to 1958. As the program prepares for the upcoming season, Kemp’s blend of analytical insight and on‑court experience is expected to deepen the team’s strategic capabilities and foster a culture of accountability.
