Grant Landy, who has steered the Cal Poly Humboldt women’s soccer program for three decades, announced this week that he will step down as head coach at the conclusion of the current season. The decision comes after a tenure marked by sustained excellence, a string of conference titles and a reputation for developing players both on and off the pitch.
A Legacy Defined by Championships
Under Landy’s guidance, the Lumberjacks captured a historic NCAA Division II Championship berth and secured the program’s first-ever California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament Championship. The team’s recent 13‑5‑2 season culminated in a 1‑0 victory over Chico State that not only clinched the conference title but also earned the squad the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament, marking the first appearance in nearly three decades.
Landy’s career record stands at 429 wins, 118 losses and 60 ties, placing him among the most victorious active coaches in Division II. Prior to his Humboldt appointment, he spent 23 seasons at Concordia University‑Portland, where he compiled a 388‑84‑37 record, captured 17 conference championships and led the team to the 2013 NAIA National Championship.
The upcoming schedule promises a rigorous non‑conference slate, beginning with a match against Central Washington on August 27. All home games at Cal Poly Humboldt will remain free to the public, a tradition Landy has upheld to keep the sport accessible to the local community.
