State 3A Baseball Tournament: Grantsville and Union Advance
Grantsville entered its opening game against Carbon facing a 4-0 deficit, but a timely bunt single by Easton Hammond ignited a rally that quickly turned the tide.
Patton Rose and Karter Reed added timely hits, and the team capitalized on two RBIs each from Logan Bennett and Brody Ware to erase the early hole and secure a 6-4 victory.
Union, meanwhile, dominated Canyon View 8-1, with pitcher Ryan Oakey limiting the opposition to three hits over six innings while Davin Brotherson and Tyson Marx each collected three hits.
Cade Frandsen drove in three runs, and Zach Maine’s RBI double provided the only spark for Canyon View, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the loss.
Both squads remain in the winners bracket and are slated to meet their respective semifinal opponents in the next round, with the stakes rising as the tournament progresses.
Coaches and players alike praised the resilience shown on the field, noting that the early challenges will likely shape their upcoming strategies.
The tournament continues to showcase emerging talent from across the state, with several named players including Easton Hammond, Patton Rose, Karter Reed, Ryan Oakey, Davin Brotherson, Tyson Marx, Cade Frandsen and Zach Maine drawing attention for their performances.
