Summer Schedule Takes Shape
The George Rogers Clark High School boys basketball team is still basking in the glow of its 2026 state championship, a triumph that has turned the offseason into a whirlwind of activity. Coach Montez Gay and his staff have mapped out a demanding summer calendar that pits the Wildcats against some of the region’s most formidable programs.
Starting on June 8, the squad traveled to Lexington Catholic High School in Fayette County to test themselves against local rivals, and just a day later they faced off against North Laurel, Mason County, and Madison Southern in a series of road contests that will continue throughout June.
The centerpiece of the schedule is the KABC Bluegrass Shootout, slated for June 12‑14 at Lexington Catholic. The event will bring together elite out‑of‑state teams and regional champions such as Boyd County, Butler and Great Crossing, offering the Wildcats a chance to measure their mettle against top competition.
Bluegrass Shootout Highlights
Organized by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches, the shootout will feature not only the Wildcats but also squads like North Laurel and Mason County, creating a mini‑tournament atmosphere that draws scouts and fans alike.
Beyond the games, the schedule underscores the team’s commitment to community engagement, with practices held at the GRC Arena and local schools, and with players like Andrew Terry, Braxton Keathley, Cole Edelen and Pierre Rondo taking on leadership roles.
Camps and Community Games
In mid‑June the team will head to Madison Central for a two‑day camp on the 15th and 16th, where they will train alongside other high‑school powerhouses and benefit from the expertise of seasoned coaches. The GRC Summer Games on June 17 will host a showdown with Henry Clay and Madison Central, providing a local showcase before the Wildcats travel to Georgetown on June 22 to meet Great Crossing in what promises to be a tightly contested finale.
