A Season of Stars
The Greater Lansing high school baseball scene capped a memorable year with the release of the regional Dream Team and all‑area selections, a tribute to the athletes who defined the 2024 campaign.
Kaleb Nielson of Williamston stood out as the Player of the Year, earning Division 2 all‑state honors after a dominant performance that left opponents scrambling.
On the mound, Sebastian Blair of Okemos posted a 1.06 earned run average and struck out 30 batters in 33 innings, while Michael Bos from Grand Ledge compiled a 1.86 ERA with 75 strikeouts over 52 ⅔ frames.
Division 1 standout Joseph Bobeda of DeWitt helped his squad capture a district title, and Jackson Fossitt from Leslie added a 1.08 ERA to earn Division 3 all‑state recognition.
Lansing Catholic’s Ethan Link broke a school record with 39 stolen bases in a single season, a speed threat that complemented his .440 batting average and 23 RBIs from Jacob Metzger of Holt.
Mason’s Colton McCaleb and Ryan Myers each contributed heavily at the plate and on the mound, with Myers hitting .404 and driving in 29 runs while stealing 27 bases.
Other notable contributors included Parker Nelson of Eaton Rapids, a Division 2 all‑state pick who batted .529, and Keagan Noble of Okemos, a Northwood commit who stole 24 bases and hit .409.
Pitchers Brett Palmer of Williamston and Ayden Smith of Haslett combined for sub‑2.00 ERAs and impressive strikeout totals, while Jerryd Scheurer of Portland St. Patrick hit .596 and earned Division 4 all‑state honors.
Charlie Thelen of Portland St. Patrick drove in 55 runs, and Paul VanDam of East Lansing posted a .404 average while earning Division 1 all‑state accolades.
Hunter VanSickler of Williamston batted .476 and was a Division 2 all‑state selection, rounding out a lineup that helped the Bulldogs clinch the CAAC Red and a Division 1 district championship under coach Kohl Tyrrell.
Looking Ahead
As the offseason begins, many of these standouts will move on to college or summer leagues, but their performances have already set a high bar for the next generation of Greater Lansing baseball talent.
