A Fresh Start for the Green Wave
Under the guidance of Jeff Bengtson, who is entering his first varsity season as head coach, the Greenfield football program has turned its attention to summer conditioning as a cornerstone of preparation. With roughly thirty players already participating in heat‑intensive workouts, the coaching staff hopes the regimen will not only improve fitness but also draw additional students to the program once the academic year begins.
The centerpiece of the roster is quarterback Gavin Arsenault, whose blend of athleticism, defensive awareness and precise passing has made him a standout on the field. Complementing him will be wide receiver DaSean Carter, a longtime friend of Arsenault whose route‑running and catching ability add depth to the offense. At running back, Kymel Ramsey brings elite speed and a strong chemistry with Arsenault, having shifted from wideout to the backfield to maximize his impact.
Last season the Green Wave finished with a 4‑5 record, scoring 138 points while allowing 188, a performance that set modest expectations for the year ahead. The coaching staff has emphasized that the team’s primary goal is to foster unity and build a foundation of teamwork, rather than merely chasing wins.
Early Games and the Road Ahead
The schedule kicks off with a road matchup against Chicopee on September 11, followed by the home opener against Frontier Regional on September 25. Both games will serve as early barometers for a squad that features four seniors but remains young and inexperienced overall.
Coaches and players alike stress that the early focus will be on translating the work done in the summer into on‑field chemistry. By prioritizing cohesion and physical conditioning, the Greenfield football team hopes to turn its modest preseason outlook into a competitive presence as the season progresses.
