Greenfield Post 81 opened its season with a decisive 18‑2 victory over Northampton Post 28 at Arcanum Field, a venue steeped in local baseball tradition.
The contest ended early after the mercy rule was invoked, with Greenfield pulling away in the fifth inning to secure the win.
Offensive onslaught
Greenfield’s bats were relentless, delivering 16 hits and seeing six different players finish with multiple hits. Hunter Donahue and Luca Siano paced the attack, each going 2‑for‑4 and driving in several runs.
Conner Bergeron contributed an RBI in the second inning, while Sam Connors doubled to push the lead to 7‑0 in the top of the fourth, setting the stage for the explosive fifth.
On the mound, Bodie Burke earned the win, throwing into the fourth inning and striking out four batters. Northampton’s starter, James LaVallee, was charged with the loss after surrendering five hits and five runs in just two frames.
