Greensboro Groove Takes the Court
The Greensboro Groove will open its inaugural season this weekend, facing the Savannah Steel in a sold‑out showdown that marks the city’s first professional women’s basketball team.
The matchup is part of the brand‑new Upshot League, a summer circuit created to give elite female players a professional pathway outside the WNBA, featuring four teams across the Southeast.
A Home Court for the Groove
All of the Groove’s games will be played at the modern Novant Health Fieldhouse, a facility that has stepped in to fill the gap left when the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament relocated.
Coach Janice Washington, who has been at the helm since the franchise’s inception, describes the debut as a watershed moment for Greensboro’s sports identity and a long‑awaited platform for local talent.
