Wisconsin Badgers head coach Greg Gard recently addressed the growing influence of name, image and likeness (NIL) deals in college basketball, noting that financial resources for players are increasing nationwide.
While the market expands, Gard stressed that the Badgers possess enough financial flexibility to stay competitive, even as other programs increase their NIL investments.
In the previous season, Wisconsin did not crack the upper half of Big Ten institutions in NIL expenditures, a statistic that Gard says does not deter the program’s ambitions.
Staff Expertise in a Rapidly Evolving Market
Gard praised the work of his support staff, highlighting their ability to guide student‑athletes through the complexities of NIL agreements and the transfer portal while staying within the program’s budgetary constraints.
Looking ahead, the Badgers aim to climb into the upper tier of Big Ten NIL resources, a goal that Gard believes is achievable through continued strategic planning and staff execution.
